There are so many sites out there doing the same old thing and competing for the same audience.

So.... I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon NuMuBu.com. NuMuBu is a business-to-business social network community for the music industry. My assessment is that it just makes sense. If you want to succeed in music, you have to connect with others in the industry to take your projects and goals to a level of success. I think NuMuBu will become somewhat of a LinkedIn for the music industry.

Cheers!

Another site that fits in with what this author is saying is uPlaya.com. It doesn't aim to replace your main site or your current social networks, but rather work with them and add another layer of depth. uPlaya hosts the increasingly more popular Hit Song Science technology, which uses sophisticated algorithms to analyze the underlying patterns in songs and provide statistical data on it's potential to be commercially successful. If you have high scores on this technology (that is becoming increasingly more accepted, Carson Daly just profiled it on his talk show and it's been studied in major publications like BusinessWeek, Discovery News and NPR), you can show off your positive analysis on your uPlaya Press Kit (basically a professional-looking profile page with all of the information you want to promote about your music) and share it on your website and your social networks with the marketing widgets they give you. They are also using their technology to roll out some features for consumers to help them discover new music.

Very helpful. I haven't heard of last.fm

Bands should also check out: http://rockstartexting.com for text messaging at their gigs. Kind of a hip new school way to build a fanbase.
